Reading Strategies
If you want to read a book and understand it, it’s very hard for you if you don’t have a method. Sometimes I read a book but i don’t understand it so i don’t like to read that book and I feel very bored. When my teacher teach me how to have an effective method to read a book. He told to me read 20 minutes of a book I chose everyday and summarize, infer, predict, question and visualize it. I do it and i think it is very useful. And now, I like to read books.

The reading strategies help me to know more about my book. Summarize is writing what about I know about the story but just only 3-5 sentences. It helps me know about the important scenes in the book, so I can remember the story exactly and longer. When I use the reading strategies, the book is more interesting to me because I can make predictions, visualizations. I guess what is going to happen next in a book and form an image in my head or draw special scene to describe a title of a book, write one sentence in a book that describe a picture.

The reading strategies help me to understand more when I make an inference and questioning tower. Inferences are making writings about your thoughts about the characters in the book. For example : Inferences : Helen stood as a power example of how determination, hard work and imagination can allow an individual to triumph over adversity. By overcoming difficult conditions with a great deal of persistence. Evidence: She can’t talk, can’t hear, can’t see but she still studies to talk and she has a lot of successes. Helen always help other people like her and encourage them to overcome their trouble. I really like to use the reading strategies when I am reading because the reading strategies help me to understand the book more. As I understand the book more, I get more from the story and from that I like to read it because when I know it is interesting, I would read more and more. These reading strategies increased my reading interest because they help me get a better understanding of the book.

I can make many connections with the  scenes in a book to the world, to self, to another book in order to understand more about a character. For example : Text to world : Helen can’t see and can’t hear like other normal people. I can understand the difficulties of her. Why don’t you try it and feel it. I also like another part of the book that tells a story about her trying to learn. Even though she is disabled but she does not give up in her life and always make more tries to reach her goals. Text to text: I have read a newspaper that also says something about trying to get a better life and it was about a girl who has a very poor family but she is a very smart girl and she studies very hard. Text to self : Helen scare storm. It remind me when I was child I scare storm like Helen.
